"Shashamane" screening at IDPAD Coalition UK

2:00 - 5:00 pmMaat Centre, 366A High Rd. Tottenham on Saturday

The Rastafari movement represents a signal transformation in the psyche and vision of 'new-world' Africans. Redemption is its core value: re-creation of African morality, pride and lifestyle in a world of gross materialism (Babylon).

Shashamane land in south-eastern Ethiopia is an iconic outpost of Rastafari from the Diaspora. The community comprises returnees from the Caribbean, the Americas and Europe, who have trekked to the 'Promised Land', asserting their sovereign right to repatriate to the Mother Africa.

The documentary film Shashamane gives a poignant insight into this unique community through interviews with its members.

Themes of Recognition, Justice and Development resonate through their life-stories.

Their struggles, triumphs, hopes and aspirations speak volumes for the search and recovery of African nationhood.

IDPAD Coalition UK will be showing the film SHASHAMANE by Giulia Amati at the Maat Centre, 366A High Rd. Tottenham on Saturday 14th October 2-5pm as a fund-raiser to support the work of the Coalition. Admission £8, £5 conc.

NNC Executive members could provide panelists for a Q+A session following the screening to update ones on the current state of the Shashemane community, the upcoming conference in November, and relevant  info on the global movement today.

Many ones in the UK community have not seen this important documentary. The event should be publicized at the New Year Binghi celebrations next Monday (11th September) at the Theorem, 385 High Rd. Willesden, NW10 2JR
