Sound Man | Celebrating 60 Years Of UK Sound System Culture

Sound system culture in the UK has played a vital part in UK music history. Since 1954 when Duke Vincent Forbes set up his home made system and started playing Ska and Calypso numbers at chest shaking volume, British sound system music has remained at the forefront of mainstream music culture.

This one-day celebration in the heart of Hackney will showcase the evolution of Caribbean sound systems culture into mainstream culture, showcasing music, film, photography and discussion.

·      Panel discussion and Q&A: Exploring the journey of sound system culture and its impact.

·      Sound System set up: A visual interactive experience of a sound system being set up.

·      Music: DJ sets taking you though a journey of sound system music and the sub genres it has influenced – Dub through to Grime.

·      Film – Guerrilla film screening of the Black British cult classic movie, Babylon.
