Chronology of the Rastafari movement
The Rastafari movement originated in the 1930s, inspired by the Coronation of Ras Tafari as Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia on November 2nd 1930.
Over the years Fire had transformed himself into a force of nature, a peaceful flame that burned brightly with the light of Rastafari.
The first international Eastern Caribbean Conference on Rastafari, entitled ‘Organize and Centralize’ was convened in Barbados from 17-27 August 1998.
In July 1997 a 10-day Binghi was organized for the first time on the South American mainland in Guyana.
In November 1996 delegates from Britain and the Caribbean attended the first international gathering of Rastafari in Southern Africa.
An international assembly of the faithful was convened in Miami, Florida, USA for a week (strong) of deliberations May 20-26 1994.
