Iyahbingi radio show | Jubilee Ilebration for Haile Selassie visit to Jamaica 21st April 1966 – 2016

Special interview with Ras Flako Tafari from Montego Bay (JA), courtesy of Ras Julio from Perugia (Italy)

When His Majesty came to Jamaica in 1966, most of the brethren in the community of Granville went to Kingston. I and Brother Largie took turns to drive the Anglia motor car, while Brother Washer drove his own car; it was three car loads of us.

I have the honour in this dispatch to report that His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, accompanied by an official entourage of 12, including two of his grandchildren, Her Royal Highness Imebet Sofyia Desta and His Highness Prince Mikael, paid a State visit to Jamaica from 21-24 April.

The competition targets youths ages 11 – 25 to research and produce an essay or a creative/artistic piece on the visit of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I to the Caribbean Region in April 1966. The competition is divided into four age categories and open to youths locally and internationally inspired to make contribution.

His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I’s visit to the Caribbean in April 1966 has now become enshrined in the annals of the Rastafari movement.
